Volunteer with Us!

Make a difference in our Houston community.

Volunteers are a vital part of how JFS staff supports our clients.  By giving their time, energy and experience, JFS volunteers provide a helping hand to our staff, isolated seniors and others in our community who may be struggling with difficult circumstances.  Our volunteers make such a difference!

As a Behavioral & Mental Health Services agency, our Volunteers who work directly with JFS clients need to protect confidentiality and understand the sensitive nature of their volunteer role. These volunteers are required to take specialized HIPAA training annually and to pass a background screening, providing our clients with a sense of safety and security.

Did You know:
  • Each year, JFS Volunteers donate thousands of hours helping our clients in the community
  • Recruiters rank volunteer participation higher than personal presentation when looking at candidates for employment.
  • Volunteers report an overall increase in sense of life satisfaction.
  • As you volunteer, you will meet new people and hear new perspectives which can help us to build bridges of understanding between generations, ethnicities and lifestyles.
  • Volunteering gives you the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than yourself.

We Need You to Help

Current Needs

Traditionally we have multiple jobs available; however, during the pandemic we are limited to the following:
  • Create greeting cards for seniors and others to spread joy during the various holidays throughout the year, for birthdays, and “Thinking of You”.  People love to receive cards made by our volunteers.  Directions and samples will be provided.
  • Be a friendly phone visitor. If you can commit to a weekly friendly phone call, we have clients who would love to engage in a conversation.  Phone visitors will receive training and need to be approved.

General Opportunities

Whatever your skills or talent, JFS has a place for you and your family.

We are actively working to place volunteers in appropriate positions to best use their skills. Please consider joining us!

Teen Opportunities

For ages 12 - 18

JFS provides many opportunities for teens to provide service to their community while learning and living the value of “g’milut chasadim,” acts of loving kindness.

"During Covid-19, volunteers made over 600 greeting cards that were delivered to seniors isolated in local senior living facilities. These cards brought joy and warmth and we will continue this opportunity for the foreseeable future and will include birthday greetings."
