While Jewish values inspire us to serve the community, Alexander JFS is committed to serving people of all faiths and backgrounds. Consistent with the ethical standards of the social work profession as well as Jewish custom, Alexander JFS does not participate in proselytizing of any type to either Jewish or non-Jewish clients.

The vast majority of programs at Alexander JFS are operated within a completely secular framework. Programs which include elements of Jewish faith or tradition such as Celebration Company- which celebrates Jewish holidays as a part of their programming - or our Jewish Chaplaincy Program, disclose these elements in advance and work to accommodate everyone in way that is respectful of their personal values and beliefs.

We believe that many will find that the values listed below, while rooted in Jewish faith and tradition, are very similar to those of many different faiths and belief systems.

An overarching Jewish value is: Repairing the World (in Hebrew: Tikkun O’lam)

This means that we see ourselves as G-d’s partner in creating a better world by being actively concerned with the welfare of individuals and society.
