Program Overview

The Opportunities for Success Transition Age Youth summer program provides competitive volunteer or work experience with training and shadows for teens and young adults with disabilities. Participants have a mentor/shadow that provides workplace support through assisting participants with job tasks and workplace etiquette. The program will increase the participants’ future employment opportunities through empowerment and inclusiveness.

Job Tasks

  • Develop effective communication and understanding with participants
  • Assist in scheduling the participants at internships
  • Assist in training the job coaches
  • Lead training for the participants
  • Assist participant in understanding job duties including breaking tasks into single tasks
  • Assist participants in maintaining appropriate workplace etiquette
  • Model or show participants how to complete a job task
  • Communicate any problems or issues with participant to supervisor
  • Maintain a nurturing and respectful relationship with participants

Requirements

Senior level or above college student or professional

Major in social work, education, psychology, pre-medicine, or human services

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Team building experience

Prior camp counselor experience helpful

Ability to work independently at employer’s worksite

Ability to follow written and verbal directions

Ability to communicate with participants and employers in a professional manner

Ability to keep organized notes as necessary

Internship Dates: June 8, 2022, to August 12, 2022

Internship Hours: 9 am – 4 pm

Internship Training: June 8, 2022, to June 10, 2022, and July 5, 2022 – July 7, 2022
