Event Overview

Do you have a High School student that is anticipating selecting colleges to apply for in the coming months or years? JFS Houston will be offering Strategies for Choosing and Affording College on Tuesday, November 30th at 7:00 P.M. via Zoom. Our professionals include College Access Coordinators and Counselors from Bellaire High School and Lamar High School, as well as Financial Aid Advisors from both Rice University and the University of Houston.

Please join us to learn strategies for reducing the cost of college, affording the college application process, as well as understanding and accessing financial aid and scholarship options.  This program will benefit high school students and their parents.

For nearly 25 years Tim has worked in education and educational leadership developing our youth and their futures. His expertise has placed students in all our U.S. Military Service Academies and many local and national universities.
Carl Gordon
Associate Director, Financial Aid Advising, University of Houston
Carl Gordon has worked in financial for 40 years, previously working at the University of Texas, the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHealth), the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and College of the Mainland in Texas City.
Devonta Lee
College Access Coordinator, Bellaire High School
DeVonta Lee has served the Greater Houston area for 8 years as the College Access Coordinator for two large, urban high schools assisting students and families with the college exploration, admissions, and financial aid process.
Ilaria Puente
Associate Director, Office of Financial Aid, Rice University
Ilaria Puente (she/her/first gen) is a native Houstonian and non-traditional University of Houston-Downtown graduate. Ilaria started her career in financial aid in 2009 as a Federal Work Study. In her current role she helps determine the affordability of a Rice education.
Dr. Christopher Teel
Director of College Counseling, The Emery/Weiner School
Dr. Christopher Teel is Director of College Counseling at The Emery/Weiner School where he has worked since 2004. A graduate of Williams College, NYU, and UT-Austin, Dr. Teel has over 15 years of experience in college counseling and is a native of Austin, Texas.
