Event Overview

Summary:

Learn how Play Therapy skills and techniques can be applied to clinical practice with children and adolescents! This continuing education event introduces participants to the theoretical foundations of Play Therapy and its benefits.

Training will be live and participants may opt to attend in person OR virtually; space limited to the first 40 participants due to the interactive format.

Prior knowledge of Play Therapy is helpful but not necessary. Continuing Education hours apply towards mental health licensure and apply towards acquiring or maintaining Registered Play Therapist credential.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation participants will be able to explain within a large group discussion setting all of the following:

  1. Describe the therapeutic powers of play and the basic elements of Play Therapy
  2. Identify major theoretical foundations and empirical research base for Play Therapy
  3. Identify application of basic skills and interventions key to the practice of Child Centered Play Therapy
  4. List the requirements for attainment of the RPT and RPT-S Credentials

Participants will be given a post-test and must score a minimum of eighty percent to receive continuing education certificate.

Cost:

Training is free to Season Pass holders; if purchased individually, registration is $50.

Terms & Conditions:
  • Registration refunds will NOT be made to parties who register but do not attend or do not contact the organizer 24 hours in advance.
  • Participants requiring accommodations must submit a medical professional’s note specifying the required accommodations to PlayTherapyTraining@jfshouston.org at least 7 days prior to any training for which they have registered.
  • JFS reserves the right to cancel any of these training in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such a cancellation occurs, JFS will attempt to notify registrants and refund all registration fees.

Credentialing Process:

For questions regarding the credentialing process please refer to the APT Credentialing Standards for the Registered Play Therapist by the Association for Play Therapy. Please check the website regularly for updates to the credentialing requirements and process.

It is the responsibility of the participant to review and follow the instructions and guidelines of Association for Play Therapy to apply for and attain all requirements for Registered Play Therapist credential. JFS is not responsible for completing the credentialing applications of participants and cannot guarantee that participant’s applications will be approved.
