Because adopting a child is exciting as well as stressful, Jewish Family Service offers both the technical resources and emotional support necessary for families going through the adoption process. In addition to home studies, international adoption opportunities and counseling, the agency provides advocacy to its adoptive parents and adoptees.
Counseling On Adoption Issues
Licensed JFS counselors answer questions and explain practical matters during the pre- and post- adoption process:
- How will this affect us as a couple?
- How will this impact our family?
- What should we tell our other children?
- How much time and money will it take to complete an adoption?
- How does JFS provide for international adoption opportunities?
- What services does JFS offer adult adoptees and birth families?
Home Studies
JFS conducts home studies necessary for any domestic or international adoption. This Home Study serves to:
- Document necessary legal and social information required for adoption
- Educate potential adoptive parents about adoption related issues
- Identify any concerns or problems the prospective adoptive family may have
- Help in solving the potential difficulties
Post-Placement/Search Services
JFS clinicians can continue their relationship with adoptive parents through post-placement visits, as required by some placing agencies. The agency also offers search services to adult adoptees and birthparents of children who were placed by JFS Houston and counseling to any person affected by an adoption.
